Hilltop Farm, Winter is one of the spectacularly beautiful Parrish winter scenes, created by the artist in 1949 for the Brown & Bigelow Publishing Company. That company published it three years later as the illustration for their winter calendar for 1952, giving it the name Lights of Welcome.
This jewel-like work is smaller than many other Parrish scenes at 13” x 15”, but remains my favorite winter landscape. It is owned by the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, which permitted me to use its image on the cover of my book Parrish: The Landscapes. My book details the Parrish landscape paintings, which were the final phase, from 1934 to 1960, of Parrish’s career.
