WELCOME TO PARRISH

JULY 2023

Happy First and Fourth Celebrations at Mid-Year

We reprise in mid-year a couple of old favorite early Parrish paintings. These remind us that Parrish was already well on his way to earning a solid living as an illustrator, having already several contracts with the weekly and monthly magazines of that era in the first decade of the Twentieth Century.

His whimsical, humorous and often irreverent treatment of common events were favorites of magazine readers, as we recall that the artist was called on repeatedly for over 25 years to produce paintings illustrating articles in a particular magazine. A fine example is this magazine cover done in 1905

Then a year later, Parrish again got the assignment of creating the “July 4th” cover theme for Collier’s. This time he came up with a much more straight forward, but still patriotic display.

In regards to any 2023 exhibit of Parrish originals, I have suspended exhibiting privately owned Parrish paintings, taking into consideration the uncertain political and economic conditions at the present time.
